    TWO SESSIONS IN ONE DAY!

Presented by: Daniel Ettinger, Keep It Humane

Verbal De Escalation: Stepping Back from the Edge

In the fast-paced and emotionally charged environment of animal shelters and investigations, effective communication is paramount. This class offers practical techniques derived from disciplines such as verbal judo, crisis intervention, and mediation, tailored to empower animal welfare professionals to navigate challenging interactions with finesse and confidence.

Have you ever found yourself on the receiving end of verbal aggression while conducting an investigation or assisting a customer at the animal shelter? Have you inadvertently escalated a tense situation with your words or actions? This lecture addresses these common scenarios head-on, providing attendees with proven strategies to defuse tension and foster positive outcomes.

Through insightful discussions and interactive exercises, participants will explore the nuanced interplay between body language, tone, and language choices, discovering how these elements shape the dynamics of interpersonal interactions. By mastering techniques to redirect confrontational behavior and promote respectful dialogue, attendees will learn to effectively manage conflict and de-escalate volatile situations.

Drawing upon real-world examples and case studies, this class equips animal welfare professionals with the tools needed to handle even the most challenging encounters with grace and professionalism. Whether facing an irate individual during an investigation or diffusing a heated exchange at the shelter, attendees will emerge from this lecture empowered to navigate interpersonal challenges with tact and efficacy.
