Combating Compassion Fatigue for Animal Service Professionals

The animal protection field is both incredibly rewarding and challenging.  This course will discuss the causes and symptoms of compassion fatigue and provide a suite of tools for building skillful communication and personal responsibility in the workplace.

Topics:

  • Define compassion fatigue and distinguish between that and burnout
  • Identify signs and symptoms of compassion fatigue and how it shows up in the the workplace where animals are present
  • How to address personal and organizational contributors
  • Techniques to work through stress
  • Practical ways to manage reactions to situations and common calls for service that may be overwhelming, upsetting or frustrating

Hosted by the South Carolina Animal Care & Control Association, the Lexington County Sheriff's Office and the Humane Society of the United States

FREE to attend.
Lunch will be provided.

Approved for continuing education hours by the National Care and Control Association and the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
